71+ Research Paper Topics & Ideas for Marketing Students

marketing research topics for mba

As a marketing student, you probably have access to a plethora of resources such as your college library and of course, the internet, to come up with great research paper topics.

However, the thought of writing your research paper can be daunting, especially if you’re still brainstorming and don’t know what to write about.

Just like any other piece of writing, start by keeping your audience in mind. Then, make a list of research paper topics that are more relevant to your interests, or a new under-developed field (for example; augmented reality, or people sentiments towards Artificial Intelligence), or a unique research topic that intrigues your audience.

But if you’re still struggling to pin down one out of the many research paper topics for your program, we’ll suggest a number of them for you to either choose from; or for you to take inspiration from and come up with your own.

Table of Contents

How to Choose the Best Research Paper Topics

Before we dive into the details, you’ll have to familiarize yourself with the basics. For starters, pick up a pen and paper and brainstorm different topics that you’d like to write about.

While personal interest is definitely important, we also suggest you opt for a topic that will intrigue your readers.  Here are a couple of factors you ought to keep in mind while selecting a topic:

Keeping your personal interest in mind

You probably won’t be able to write a stellar research paper if you’re not interested in the topic. Sit down with your peers and advisors to discuss possible ideas. It will be easier for you to discuss different themes once you’ve written down all your ideas in one place. If you’ve decided on a specific keyword for instance “consumer behaviour”, you can look for similar research papers on the internet.

A research paper isn’t a descriptive essay which you can drag aimlessly. Your research paper needs to be based on factual data and that’s only possible if you’ve conducted thorough research. While jotting down points for your first draft, ensure your statements are supported with references or examples citing credible academicals and research work.

Don’t leave it till the last day

A lot of students tend to undermine the writing process and leave for the last few days. Bear in mind that you can’t possibly write your entire research paper overnight. In order to succeed, you’ll have to devote sufficient amount of time to research.

Also, be prepared to schedule meetings with your advisor on a regular basis as you’re bound to require help along the way. At this point, make sure you only rely on credible sources that will support your dissertation.

Examples & List of Research Paper Topics

If you’re still unable to decide a topic of your interest, here is a list of 70 unique marketing research topics that you can use as marketing project topics for your MBA, or any other marketing course:

Specific objectives include analyzing the effect of cryptocurrencies on banking operations, exploring their influence on financial regulations, and evaluating their implications for financial stability..."

Literature Review : Briefly review existing literature relevant to your research topic. Highlight the strengths and weaknesses of current research and how your study will contribute.

Example : "Several studies have focused on the technical aspects of cryptocurrencies. However, there is a lack of comprehensive research examining their broader impact on financial systems..."

Methodology : Outline the methods you'll use to conduct your research. This could include data collection methods, analytical tools, and procedures.

Example : "This study will employ a mixed-methods approach, including a review of existing literature, analysis of secondary data from financial institutions, and semi-structured interviews with financial industry professionals..."

Expected Outcomes : Briefly describe the potential findings of your research and their implications.

Example : "This study expects to reveal the profound effects of cryptocurrencies on traditional financial systems. These findings may assist policymakers, financial institutions, and researchers in understanding and navigating this digital financial revolution..."

Research projects are critically important for mba marketing.

Traditional MBAs are generally more accepted across all companies. The reason is that they have a hands on experience in working as interns in some company. Further, traditional MBAs have tutors that have real life working experience across multiple industries.

However, several recruiters complain that this is missing in the case of Online MBAs.

Therefore, students who are doing Online MBAs need some way of showing that they possess equivalent knowledge and skills. The most straightforward way of doing so is through research projects. These projects demand a lot from the students and upon successful completion, they act as credible proof of knowledge and skills.

Further, these projects in MBA Marketing can also be uploaded in several job posting websites like LinkedIn, Fiverr, Upwork or Freelancer and will act as testimonials.

List of Research Topics

Though there are unlimited ideas for research topics in marketing, yet everybody struggles in settling for the topic that could be a best fit for them. During my MBA (in Finance and Marketing), I spent nearly a month in search for Research Topics and when I saw what others chose, I felt like all my month long search went in vain.

The following list of research topics in management has been created by me after 2 years of professional experience which means each of the topic will have a very high impact in your MBA and also guide you to choose a career path.

Demonstrating your ability to think critically and analytically is what you’re supposed to bring in your Marketing Dissertation. A marketing dissertation requires you to conduct extensive research and present an argumentation in a particular claim of the topic you have chosen. The very first step to presenting a perfectly written marketing dissertation is to choose a topic you’re genuinely interested in, this allows you to understand and present the arguments well. However, you should make sure that the topic chosen is capable enough of contributing to your future in career aspects. You can look for marketing topic ideas from present scenarios, academic journals and scholarly books. In the aftermath of choosing the topic, you’re supposed to develop a research question. While creating a research question you must keep in mind your ability to answer it through primary and secondary sources. Gather the necessary material for your research and prepare an outline for your Marketing Dissertation. The last and final step of presenting a perfectly written marketing dissertation is to revise, edit and proofread your dissertation and make changes if required. Revise your marketing dissertation as many times as you can until you are fully satisfied with the paper.

The best research topics in digital marketing include Artificial Intelligence, Conversational Marketing, Video Marketing, Search Engine Optimisation, Influencer marketing, Pay per Click Advertising, Visual Search, and Social Media Management and Marketing.

Some special dissertation topics in commerce are: 1) Write about the influence that advertising picks up on the performance of purchasers. 2) Address about the scholars can be trained among the mobile phone business. 3)Write about how foreign commerce can manage standardisation.

Research Topic in Marketing

There are many different Research Topics in Marketing . You can select from our vast range of them depending on your requirements. These include pricing, sales and promotion pricing models, customer relationship management (CRM), digital marketing research topics, etc.

Table of Content

What is marketing research .

Marketing Research is a crucial procedure that enables companies to gain insights into their customers and the overall market. It empowers businesses to develop new products and services that align with the preferences and requirements of their target audience. Moreover, marketing research provides valuable data that companies can leverage to formulate and implement effective marketing strategies, ensuring they meet the demands of their customers. The methodology for marketing research varies widely and can be tailored to suit the specific needs and interests of the company.  Marketing Research also helps businesses understand their competition by identifying what they’re doing right, where they’re falling short, or how they could be improved.

What is Marketing Strategy and Planning?

Marketing strategy and planning is the process of developing a plan to meet marketing objectives. It involves determining your customer needs, understanding your market, developing an integrated marketing communication plan, implementing these plans and measuring their success.

Marketing strategy can be completed within four crucial steps:

  • Define Your Objectives (Explain what your goal is?)
  • Make a profound communication plan (How are you going to communicate with customers?)
  • Implement The Communication Plan (Which channels will be used? When should they be used?)
  • Estimate the results accordingly (Find out if your efforts were worth the trouble?)

What are some Marketing Project Topics?

Here, we will talk about some of the most important research topics in the field of marketing.

  • Customer segmentation : Customer segmentation involves categorizing customers into distinct groups based on their unique characteristics and behavior. This process is typically carried out using methods such as surveys or experiments to collect relevant data. By dividing customers into different segments, businesses can gain a better understanding of their diverse customer base and tailor their marketing strategies to meet the specific needs and preferences of each group. This approach can help companies improve customer satisfaction, increase sales, and ultimately drive growth.
  • Customer relationship management (CRM) : a system that Is responsible to track all kinds of customer interactions with a brand over time so you can learn more about them and improve your products/services accordingly.
  • Pricing models : the way in which companies set their prices for goods or services; this includes either fixed price models like cost plus markup or variable pricing models where prices are determined by demand fluctuations based on changes in market conditions at any given time.

Pricing, Sales and Promotion Pricing Models

Pricing is the process of setting prices for products or services. It’s an essential component in a business’s revenue generation strategy. The simplest way to understand pricing is that it involves two factors: demand (how much people are willing to pay) and value (what you have to offer). If your product or service has more value than what consumers will pay for it, then you can charge higher prices for it – even if demand remains low!

Since firms have had to adapt, it is only natural for the curriculum to keep up with global trends. Digital marketing has also become a much-favored topic for MBA students. Here’s why.

Why Is Digital Marketing a Popular Topic for MBA?

Digital Darwinism is forcing businesses to reconsider digital marketing as the most viable option. The fast-paced field has shifting dynamics, which compels firms to adapt faster than their capabilities. From social media marketing to cool SEO tactics, the digital marketing industry has taken over the traditional marketing industry by storm.

The need for digital marketing catapulted in 2020. With the coronavirus shutting down the economy, several industries resorted to online businesses. There are 1.5 billion active users of social media globally, which allows digital marketing to get to a larger base. Consider this: a small thrift shop in your locality wasn’t getting enough leads. They decided to model the dresses themselves and resorted to free, valuable content on TikTok. They launch their brand globally without having to pay anything.

This is the best-case scenario in terms of organic growth. But this is also the reality of several small businesses in remote corners of the world, forcing even Instagram to launch its video feature: reels.

The choice of digital marketing for MBA project topics is obvious. Since digital marketing is an umbrella term that encompasses a vast range of services, it presents a lot of possibilities for research. The Covid-19 pandemic has only increased the importance of digital marketing topics for MBAs.
